A DIY Teacher Gift for Anytime of The Year
I love this DIY teacher gift because it is easy to make, inexpensive and super cute! Who doesn’t adore pom-poms? This gift can be given at any time of the year. At Christmas it can be hung on a tree. When breaking up for summer it can be presented in a 3D picture frame.
The rainbow is such an inspirational symbol, especially during Covid times. What better way to say, “Thank you” to a teacher (or other key-worker) than with one of these gorgeous pom-pom rainbow ornaments? This rainbow allow your child to add a personal touch of thanks for the the way our key-workers have served us and put themselves on the frontline during the pandemic.
This DIY teacher (key-worker) gift is straightforward to make and looks great!
Enjoy spending quality time with your child making these striking rainbows.
Preparation is the Key
Before you complete this activity with your kids have a go at it yourself. That way you can iron out any lumps and bumps in the process.
When you’re ready to get crafty with the kids set out all of the resources you need before they get involved. That way they aren’t asking you a million questions – this is when craft can get a bit stressful.
Make yourself a cuppa, put on some happy music and enjoy crafting with your kids.
One of our favourite albums to listen to whilst crafting is ‘Sing.’ Take a look below.
What You’ll Need:
By clicking on the images or text below you will be taken to your Amazon account where you will be able to buy what you need to complete this DIY teacher craft. I’ve tried to make it as hassle free as possible for you to get crafting.
I have used similar resources for the Rainbow Pom-Poms as I did for the Log Rounds DIY Christmas Craft. If you completed that activity you will probably have most of the resources you need.
Lazer Cut Wooden Rainbows (various sizes available, I used 100mm)
PVA Glue and/or Cool Glue Gun
Fine Glitter (optional)
Sequins (optional)
Glitter Glue Pens (optional)
Table Covering or Old Newspaper
How To Decorate your Rainbow
1- Paint the wooden rainbow ornament using the Artistro paint pens.
2 – Add character by gluing on pom-poms, glitter and/or sequins. (See photos for inspiration.)
3 – If using a glue gun ensure an adult takes full responsibility for this and that children are not left unattended.
4 – Cut a piece of string or thread about 15cm long.
5 – Fold the string in half and using the glue gun attach the ends to the back of the rainbow.
6 – Take a photo of your kid’s gorgeous DIY Teacher Gift and tag @yourtalkingteacher. I can’t wait to be inspired by your rainbow designs!
DIY Teacher Gift Helpful Tips:
The most difficult part of this craft is the gluing. Lashings of PVA glue does work but not as effectively as a glue gun. A cool glue gun will make the activity safer.
We used a combination of both glues. My children stuck their pom-poms using loads of PVA. I applied first aid with the glue gun!
When adding glitter, it’s best to use PVA glue not a glue gun.
Add pom-poms to any leftover log rounds you might have from the ‘Painted Log Rounds’ DIY Christmas Craft. First paint the rounds using the Artistro Paint Pens then add pom-poms and finish off with glitter. Fabulous!
